Pew Potato
Have been thinking about service recently. At church I was reminded of the importance of serving others as part of loving them and building community. The deepest irony was that I heard the call to serve and I still sat there waiting for more revelation.
I was called to give and I sat there waiting to receive.
Sometimes I wish that I wasn't quite so effective at fitting into society and particularly the consumer 'give it me all and give it me now' part of society (although some of my friends would probably suggest that I was slightly delusional to think I am 'normal'!).
I am just so good at sitting there and waiting to receive more - more insight, more gifts, more opportunity.
And I think it's actually a balance between knowing that God's already given me everything I need through His resurrected Son, and the fact that it's still meant to be a partnership with God, an ongoing relationship that involves continually returning to Him rather than getting a huge download of stuff and then setting out in my own strength.
It's a balance between stepping out in faith because of all that Jesus has achieved for me and returning to Him rather than doing things in my own strength ("My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness").
Anyway, the correct response to a call to service most definately wasn't sitting there waiting to receive more!
